I wanted to revisit my focus for this blog, which is racing for cheap.
Like a lot of folks we're going through a few financial changes - new mortgage, new baby, change in income. So, sticking to a budget is pretty much key.
The GTI fell into my lap and is awesome on several levels.
1. Cheap to purchase and already tricked out.
2. 13" wheels, which equals cheap take-off tires from the Formula Ford crowd. Cheap? Try 60 bones for a set of barely scuffed in Hoosier R25A's (their stickiest compound), good for a full year of shenanigans.
3. Cheap parts - $200 for a low mileage engine from that unloved, boat anchor of a vehicle, the third generation VW Golf.
4. It's also about the thrill of scoring stuff for cheap and
5. Getting (mostly) the same experience as a guy in a Porsche 911 for a fraction of the cost.
So, here we are.
